The Needler is one of the Halo game franchise’s most recognizable weapons. It’s not only a fun and uniquely strong weapon, but it stands out visually in a way that few if any other Halo weapons can. It’s a large, purple weapon based on Halo’s Covenant faction, meaning it’s got a fun alien style with smooth angles. Along the top of the Needler are many pink crystalline spikes, which serve as ammo for the weapon. When fired, these “needles” create a high-pitched sound that is certain to make Halo fans wince.

Nerf’s version of the Needler weapon is an astonishing re-creation of Halo’s device. It features the same futuristic and alien look, all of the crystalline needles expected on its back, and it’s also huge while still fitting into a person’s hand. The one obvious change is that the gun has Nerf bolts fired from the mouth of the Needler via a 10-bolt turret-fed blaster, rather than firing the needles themselves. As such, the needles won’t disappear when bolts are fired from the gun.
Additionally, Nerf also showed that its upcoming Needler will be powered via 6 AAA batteries, not only for its firing mechanism but to provide light effects. The prototype Needler showed some light glow for each of the needles in the Needler’s back, as well as a white glow from the seams of the weapon. It’s possible that further illumination through the body of the Needler will be present in the final version.
This isn’t the first Needler toy to be sold as a toy. Nerf even has a much cheaper, purely mechanical version that fires a single dart and costs $10.99 that’s quite unattractive. Needless to say, the new Needler is going to be a much more exciting device whether it’s used for playing around or simply for display on a shelf next to someone’s Halo games.
Halo Infinite releases December 8 on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
