According to a blog post on Halo Waypoint, Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s Season 8 will be the final major content update for the game. The blog post reassures fans that the game will still continue receiving support following Halo Infinite’s launch, but that 343 Industries will be drastically rolling back the update sizes and moving away from larger seasonal changes.

The post clarifies in saying that very little of the team working on The Master Chief Collection also works on Halo Infinite, but that it doesn’t make sense for the studio to fully support two nearly identical multiplayer games. 343 reiterates several times that support altogether isn’t going to stop, but it will look different following the launch of The MCC’s Season 8. The post highlights modding as potentially being the future of new content coming to the game as it can be more community-driven and 343 will be able to divert its efforts elsewhere.
Modding for The Master Chief Collection has been a relatively new addition, but 343 Industries makes a special point to say that it will continue providing more modding kits and supporting the community. Currently, the team has plans to allow for official Halo 2 and Halo 3 mods to be made, but there isn’t any date on when fans can expect to be given the kits. Based on the post, it seems like all of 343’s MCC efforts are being devoted to Season 8 and the other updates and features mentioned in the post will be coming following its launch.
There’s a lot of great content coming to The Master Chief Collection for Season 8, so it feels like a good sendoff for the seasonal content in the game. While plenty of fans will likely be disappointed by the news that focus is shifting more to Halo Infinite’s multiplayer once it launches, the seasonal content for the game should feel relatively similar as the blog post gives the impression that much of the current team working on MCC’s multiplayer will also be working on Infinite post-launch.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
