Halo Infinite’s multiplayer component launched last November and was initially very popular due to its free-to-play model and owing to the fact that it was the latest entry into the classic multiplayer franchise. However, numbers began to fall off shortly after release, with players citing a lack of new content, poor performance, shallow customization, and a lack of co-op multiplayer. Fortunately, 343 Industries appears to be making an effort to address many of these complaints, with plans to revamp the armor core system in Halo Infinite and having introduced an impressive amount of new content for its second season.

New maps and modes are often welcome in a multiplayer shooter, and Season 2 is bringing several of each into the fold. For Big Team Battle, 343 Industries is introducing the Breaker map, a Banished ship-breaking yard with a long center lane providing access to vehicles (and an easy target for ambushers). The map is available in the Big Team Battle playlist, the new Last Spartan Standing playlist, and Custom Games.

In regards to Arena, Catalyst is a new map set within a Forerunner structure with a light bridge connecting each side of the arena. Catalyst can be played on most Arena playlists, including Ranked. New modes including Last Spartan Standing (Free For All), team-based King of the Hill, Land Grab (King of the Hill with multiple capture points), and Attrition (Team Slayer with a shared respawn pool) should each be an interesting twist on previous maps as well as the newest ones.

Season 2 will allow for Battle Pass Switching, so players can still purchase the Premium Battle Pass for Season 1, equip it, and work on unlocking its rewards. This is a handy catchup mechanic so that players don’t miss out on their favorite rewards if they happen to start late. Season 2’s Fracture event, Fracture: Entrenched, will feature Event Challenges focused on the new Land Grab game mode. Customization options such as the EAGLESTRIKE armor core are exclusive to these Event Challenges and can only be earned during the course of the event. Two new narrative events in Halo Infinite will also take place throughout the season, each lasting two weeks and offering 10 items to unlock.

The Season 2 update also includes a wide variety of balance adjustments for everything from weapons and vehicles to melee attacks and jumping collisions, making it clear that 343 Industries has been listening to fan feedback in an attempt to revive Halo Infinite’s player base. For gamers wishing there was more to do in Halo Inifinite’s multiplayer, there should hopefully be enough new content this season to keep busy for a while.

Halo Infinite is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
