Hopefully, a few of the questions about the time leading up to the main narrative of Halo Infinite will be answered next month when a new novel, Halo: The Rubicon Protocol, gets released. This prequel will go into the events that happened six months before the player’s journey begins in Halo Infinite, detailing occurrences in the universe and how Master Chief returns to the franchise. Written by Kelly Gay, who has created various Halo works before, many fans seem content that the story will be in good hands.

However, something that some people aren’t happy with is how Halo’s Twitter account announced the upcoming novel. There is a great tease for the book, as the tweet says that fans can “witness the devastating Banished ambush at Zeta Halo” when the novel drops on August 9. What isn’t stated is that the novel is in fact a book, which has angered some fans who initially believed that Halo Infinite DLC was on the way. Rumors of an upcoming Halo Infinite DLC have been around for some time, especially following 343 Industries trademarking Halo: The Endless back in December 2021.
There have also been leaks regarding a possible single-player or campaign DLC for Halo Infinite, but leakers have stated that if such plans are being put in place, it will be a long time before fans can continue Master Chief’s story. Plenty of Halo Infinite players are already unhappy with the latest entry in the game, as they believe there are still vital issues that need to be solved, especially where multiplayer is concerned.
343 Industries has been working to improve Halo Infinite since its rocky launch. Multiple bug fixes have been made for multiplayer, and while desync issues are still at large, the developers are reportedly working to deal with those problems too. In terms of extra campaign content, a co-op story mode is coming to Halo Infinite, but again many fans aren’t too happy because they believe that this feature should’ve been implemented into the game since day one.
Halo Infinite is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Halo: The Rubicon Protocol releases on August 9, 2022.
